UAB to Sport Alternates for Homecoming Game

Homecoming is always a special weekend for every school across the country. It's even more special for a program like UAB, now four games in to the return season of football. The homecoming game against Louisiana Tech would be special regardless, for so many reasons. But UAB decided to add more meaning to the game. The Blazers will be sporting new alternate Under Armour uniforms. But the significance doesn't stop there.

UAB is a special place that touches many people. From being one of the top medical research facilities in the country, to being located next door to Children's of Alabama Hospital in downtown Birmingham, the Blazers know there's more to life than football. This weekend's game will feature a very special tribute to the Children's Harbor patients and families by wearing the names of the child on the back of their jerseys. Each player has been paired with a child. The children will get to keep the jersey at the conclusion of the game.
Children's Harbor is a non-profit charity that provides children with serious illnesses and their families a place to be themselves - to have fun and relax - while also receiving no-cost services that make life a bit easier for the whole family.

The UAB football team and head coach Bill Clark adopted Children's Harbor as their community charity in 2016. The team visits patients regularly. The Birmingham Children's Harbor center is located just a few blocks away from UAB's campus.

The uniforms themselves will be a dark grey colored body, with neon green wordmark, numbers, and shoulder caps. This will be a major departure from the normal UAB football uniforms worn this year and previous seasons. The Blazers have typically stuck with a dark, forest green color paired with gold. The gold has changed a bit over the years, where it was once more of a yellow shade. This will be the first alternate uniform worn by the Blazers since the 2006 season, when black jerseys made their way on the field.
